AUDIT OVERVIEW
For this project, we will look at various reports, metrics, and other data sources used by Postal Service city delivery staff at all levels. Specifically, we will look at Postal Service requirements for using data and whether or not they are followed, if there are consistencies with how data is used nationwide, the usefulness of the data, staffs ability to access data, and identify possible best practices for how data is used.
To objective of our audit is to assess the Postal Service use of data to manage City Delivery Operations.

There should not need to be a costly study to get delivery correct! Just use common sense! Two experiences of mine lately: 1) a small parcel post package was HELD at a Calif facilty for WEEKS before it was released for delivery! Holding of mail should never be allowed! A postal carrier friend has told us it is common practice at the branch he works! 2) I am waiting for a Priority Mail envelope that was mailed from Florida to Richmond, VA on 2/29. Upon tracking, I see it went from its origin to Sandston, VA (a suburb of Richmond) to New Jersey and now it is in West Virginia! Common sense tells me that any mail (esp Priority) that ends up at the Sandston facility could/should be directly taken from there and distributed to the Richmond area branch stations! Why pay to have it trucked or flown to NJ and then back here! And you folks wonder why USPS business is going down??!! HELLO!
The U.S. Postal Service, Office of Inspector General invites you to share your thoughts on data usage within the Postal Service. Your feedback is valuable and can assist us during the course of our audit work. We are specifically interested in receiving feedback for the following questions:
Should the Postal Service require staff nationwide to review the same reports/data to manage city delivery operations?
What changes should be made with how Postal Service city delivery staff reviews data?
Are there any data tools ( e.g. iPads, portable computers etc) that would help city delivery staff use data more efficiently?
